02In depth

The basics first

Most attacks on small businesses succeed because the basics are not in order. Four measures together cover most of the risks: multi-factor sign-in on email and files, updates that actually get installed, limited permissions for users and an off-site backup that has been tested.

Every approach starts there, because it costs little and achieves a lot. We build further on that foundation, depending on what your business does and what data you hold.

03

People are part of security

Most incidents begin with a message that looks genuine: an invoice, a notice from the bank, a request from the director. Technology can stop a lot, but not everything. A team that knows what to look for and reports a doubtful email without hesitation is the last line of defence.

We give a short briefing with real-life examples, adapted to how you work.

04

A plan for when it goes wrong anyway

No security is complete. That is why a plan goes with it: who you call, what you disconnect, what you do not do and how you recover. A backup that has been tested determines how quickly you can work again. You can read more in our explanation of what a good backup is.

For the consequences of ransomware, the best-known form of data hostage-taking, we have a separate page: protection against ransomware.

05

GDPR, NIS2 and what comes with them

The GDPR requires businesses that process personal data to secure it properly and to report a data breach. The European NIS2 directive applies to certain sectors and from a certain size. Whether your business falls under it depends on your sector and size, and is best assessed by a lawyer or your trade association.

What we do is set up the technology so that you can meet reasonable requirements, and help you gather the facts for such an assessment: which systems you use, where data is stored and which measures are in place.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Is cybersecurity only for large companies?
No. Smaller businesses are often attacked precisely because their security is less well arranged. We provide tailored solutions.
Where are my backups stored?
Locally or in the cloud, depending on your wishes and requirements.
How quickly can I work again after an incident?
That depends on your setup. With a good recovery plan and regular tests we keep downtime as short as possible.
Can employees also receive training?
Yes. Training on phishing and other digital threats makes your team more alert.
How do I know how vulnerable my business is?
Start with the free website check or request a security scan. You get concrete insight and advice.
What is multi-factor sign-in?
Besides your password, you confirm the sign-in a second way, for example with a notification on your phone. A stolen password is then not enough to sign in. It is the measure that prevents most account takeovers.
What should I do after a data breach?
Limit the damage by closing off access and contact us. If personal data is involved, many businesses have a duty to report to the Dutch Data Protection Authority within 72 hours of discovery. We help gather the facts.
